LEAK DETECTION & HEATING REPAIRS

Concealed Heating Leak Located in Welling

Tracer gas analysis & borescope inspection located a heating leak beneath the hallway floor on 24 September 2026.

Investigating pressure loss

The customer reported that the heating system was losing pressure every 24 to 48 hours. WOW carried out a visual inspection & used a borescope to investigate the concealed pipework. The system was drained down & remaining water cleared using an air compressor before tracer gas was introduced to trace the source of the pressure loss.

Pinpointing the failure

Tracer gas analysis located the leak beneath the hallway radiator. A local opening through the parquet flooring provided access to the concealed pipework, where a small pinhole failure was identified in lagged 15mm copper. This allowed the repair to be focused on the identified leak location.

Repair & follow up

Both adjacent 15mm copper pipe sections were removed & replaced as a temporary repair. The heating system was refilled, with inhibitor topped up, before a one hour pressure test was carried out. No drop in system pressure was reported two days after completion.

Reinstatement: no flooring reinstatement was carried out during this attendance.

Support after the leak repair

Finding & repairing the leak is the first stage. WOW also has a drying & restoration team to follow on where water damage requires further attention. We can coordinate that next stage so the repair findings & photographs are available to the team planning the drying & reinstatement work.

For this job, the completed work covered the leak investigation, access, temporary pipework repair, inhibitor top up & system checks. Any drying, parquet floor repairs or other reinstatement form a separate follow on stage.

LEAK DETECTION & PLUMBING REPAIR

Hot Water Leak Beneath a Kitchen Floor

A concealed hot water leak investigated & repaired by WOW on 19 September 2026.

Finding the source

Hot water was appearing beneath the kitchen units. A previous plumber had attended but could not pinpoint the source & recommended specialist leak detection. Thermal imaging & pinless moisture mapping helped narrow the affected area. Targeted removal of tiles & substrate exposed a failed 15 mm copper hot water pipe beneath the kitchen floor.

Repair & next steps

The failed section was cut out & replaced with new 15 mm copper & soldered fittings. Once the repair was complete, the replacement pipework was wrapped in Denso tape to protect it from contact with the surrounding substrate. The area was left safe with temporary board protection. Drying & permanent reinstatement remained separate from the leak detection & pipe repair.

LEAK DETECTION, PLUMBING & DRAINAGE

Water Main Repairs & Drainage CCTV in Wanstead

Tracer gas analysis, targeted supply repairs, drainage inspection & surface reinstatement across visits from 12 to 14 September 2026.

Locating the water loss

Following an earlier attendance, the mains supply was disconnected & tracer gas introduced into the incoming pipe. Analysis along the external route located a leak at the gland nut of an old stopcock. Excavation exposed a lead water main transitioning to alkathene pipework.

Repairing the supply

After the initial repair, further testing identified another leak near the meter. Additional excavation revealed severe deterioration in the lead supply. The affected accessible section was replaced & the supply tested again, with no further leaks identified at that time.

Drainage & finishing work

A CCTV drainage survey found displaced joints & cracks in the clay pipework. The water main excavation was backfilled, followed by tarmac reinstatement on a return visit. Toilet cistern repairs were also completed & the work area left safe & tidy.

Further work recommended: renewal of the remaining lead supply & separate drainage remedial work were recommended. This project records the targeted supply repairs, inspection & reinstatement completed.

FROM OUR INVESTIGATIONS

What the Testing Revealed

A closer look at a concealed cistern leak investigation & repair.

Concealed cistern leaking into the room below

The problem

Water from an upstairs bathroom was reaching the living room ceiling, & the mains water had been turned off.

The investigation

Removing the flush plate revealed pooling beneath the cistern. A borescope confirmed an active leak before further access was made.

The work & result

The toilet was removed to reach the failed cistern connection. The connection was secured, the toilet was refitted & sealed, & repeated filling & flushing checks were completed. No further leakage was observed during the testing.

Why the sequence matters: the active leak was confirmed before access work, & the repair was tested afterwards.
